In this group of sculptures I use as well free modeling as cast forms. In the chimerical sculpture “The Last Harpy” I bring this execution to perfection. On the basis of the transformation of the figures, to which I add parts (a demon, stars, organs) or take away parts( feathers) I tell about processes and relations.
The last Harpy, 2025-2026
papermaché, swan feathers, wood, dimension variabel, figure: 120x60x57 cm
A harpy is a mythic being, part bird, part (female) human being, who originates from antic Greece. She was seen as the personification of stormwinds: Aello, stormpetrel, und Okypete, wing of swallow. It was later that they were associated with the Erinys (goddesses of vengeance).
Avian beings exist in many cultures around the world. To mention just a few: Ereshkigal of sumer mythologie, represents the authority of death. Kinnara, in both male and female form, as a couple never to be seperated, derives from hinduistic and buddhist mythologie. Gamayun, a bird of prophecy with a female´s head, is prominent in russian folklore. Different sagas in northern europe speak about the swan-maidens, who undress their featherdress before taking a bath.
In the Amazons rainforest lives the harpy eagle, an endangered key-species. The presence of this predator is vital for the health of the forest. I let myself inspire by the appearance of the harpy eagle.
The last Harpy stands firm on the ground with powerful bird´s feet and claws. One lifted arm spreads its flight feathers. The other arm possesses no flight feathers but one. The right hand reaches out to grasp one of the spread out feathers. The pre-bulged eyes look in the concave form of the feathers. We discover a light expression of amazement on the creatures face.
Around the harpy real swanfeathers lay on the floor. They form 2 halfcircles and create a bridge between the world of the spectator and the world of imagination.
Sack of Stars, 2020
burlap, textile, metal, 117 x 84 x 72 cm
In my life a a city person the stars are not prominent. The nocturnal lights of the city outshine the stars. The moon is most of the time hidden behind buildings. It’s difficult to keep a relation with the universe.
Sack of Stars, a figure, larger than life, squats on the floor. The torso shows itself as a simple open sack which is made of burlap, stitched roughly. Only the inside is lined with a darkblue fabric with a pattern of stars and galaxies.
On its brim in front and at the side long limbs are attached. They end in large hands and feet. The huge head is slightly bend over, the eyes look downwards into the sack.
What happens when I bring the universe in my inside and establish it there? In the end all elements that constitute live on earth have cosmic origin.
Puppets and dolls are an integral part of early magic-charm inventories. They are, as human and animal revenants, the enigmatic guests of dark interiors. The fear of their coming to life and their potential to work evil upon us testifies even today to the remnants of a once unbroken magical relation to the world deeply ingrained within us.
EUGEN BLUME, THE FATE OF INWARD WAITING IN THE FIGURES OF NADINE RENNERT, 2008, DEM STAUB EIN GEGENGEWICHT, VERLAG MODERNE KUNST
Delicate Reciprocity, 2019
burlap, textile, paper, variable dimensions
Two figures, one top of each other, a third figur sitting at the side. They have the size of children.
The firgues are characterized by their hollowness in the torso. Through the holes a long chain of radiant red pouches hangs down. They remind us of organs. The last pouch appears under the lying figure on the ground.
Light cast a shadow of the organs on the wall. The shadow touches the sitting figure on the side.
Woman, 2017-18,
papermaché, rice paper, corrugated cardboard, 165 x 57 x 29 cm
A bust of a smaller than life size female figure. She is covered in a cloak that leaves the front open. The head is slightly tilted, the eyes closed. The braids hang down and grow into the inside space. The arms and folded hands form a circle that closes the form.
inside the bust another head is placed. In contrast to the inwardly look of the female, this head shows excentric expression. Eyes wide open, nostrils expanded, mouth open, teeth bleeped and tongue protruded. The hair of that creature looks like flames and the braids that end on the head remind of horns
